The main purpose of ESD protection products is to set ESD-sensitive materials and persons to the same accumulation of charge through earthing. Workstations protected against static electricity with a resistance of 106–109 Ω create a surface that has the same potential as ESD-protected objects at the work station.
In order to create an ESD-protected workstation that complies with EC61340-5-1 or ANSI EOS/ESD 6.1, all objects (including people) must be earthed to the same earthing point.
This creates an electrostatic balance between all objects and persons. By using ESD mats and equipment, an earthing path for static electricity is created. This path reduces the occurrence of static electricity discharge.
Complies with the requirements set forth in EOS/ESD-S4 standard, measured surface resistance Rg 107 and Rp 108 Ω.
