Kjellberg Root Flux

The root flux is applied to the root side (some 2 mm thick) before welding; protects against welding-related oxidation.

• Designed for the TIG welding of low-alloy and stainless steels (nickel content max. 20%).


• Not a substitute for protective gas – to be used when gas is not applicable.


• Protects the root side but is not equivalent to an argon-protected root side.


• Removes oxide inclusions and exhaust oxides during welding.


• Can replace protective gas (if the application does not permit gas protection on the root side), tape and ceramic backing.


• Acts as a backing by distributing heat evenly below the weld.


• Chemical function removes impurities from weld pools.


• Supplied as a powder – mix with industrial alcohol (methanol, ethanol) or distilled water prior to welding, three parts powder to two parts liquid.
