Kjellberg Root Flux root protection paste

Root Flux root protection paste is an excellent choice for TIG welding of low-alloy and stainless steels. It protects against oxidation during welding and distributes heat evenly on the underside of the weld. Acting as a backing paste, it cleans the weld pool of impurities and removes oxide inclusions during welding. The easy-to-use powder is mixed with liquid and applied to the root side before welding.

• Used in TIG welding of low-alloy and stainless steels (nickel content max. 20%)


• Protects against oxidation during welding


• Also acts as a backing paste by distributing heat evenly on the underside of the weld


• Also acts chemically by cleaning impurities from the weld pool


• Does not replace root shielding gas; used when shielding gas cannot be used


• Protects the root side, but does not correspond to a root side shielded with argon


• Removes oxide inclusions and emission oxides during welding


• Replaces gas shielding (if the design makes shielding gas difficult to use on the root side), tape, and ceramic backing


• Applied to the root side in an approx. 2 mm layer before welding


• Supplied as a powder; mixed with industrial alcohol (methanol, ethanol) or distilled water in a ratio of 60% powder to 40% liquid before welding
