There are BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered), NPT (National Pipe Thread/Tapered), and NPTF (National Pipe Tapered Fuel) threads, all of which are tapered threads. They differ in thread counts per inch, taper angle, and thread flank angle. For NPT and NPTF threads, the flank angle is 60°, whereas for BSPT connectors it is 55°; the taper angle is the same for NPT and NPTF. NPT threaded connections require separate sealing (PTFE tape or thread sealant). NPTF threaded connections should not use additional sealing, as the threads are so tight that they seal upon tightening. An NPTF threaded UK connector can be used with an NPT threaded SK connector because the NPT connection requires sealing. An NPTF threaded UK connector must not be used with an NPTF threaded SK connector, as the connection will not be leak-proof.
