In all load-bearing structures and structures critical for personal safety,
only stainless steel fasteners, screws and nails must be used.
In other structures, hot-dip galvanised fasteners, screws and nails as well as so-called decking screws
may also be used. However, it must be noted that the service life of hot-dip galvanised
metal may be shorter than that of pressure-treated wood.
It is particularly important that fasteners, screws and nails used together are all made of the same material.
Galvanised and stainless products must not come into contact with each other. The galvanising of
hot-dip galvanised products must be at least G185 according to ASTM A123 and A153
(zinc layer thickness at least 90 micrometres).
The use of products coated with a thinner zinc layer must be completely avoided.
